Will a 3G repeater convert an EDGE signal into 3G?

I only have edge where I live and I realize that probably won't work to just install a 3G repeater but if it doesn't, can anyone tell me how convert an EDGE signal to 3G so that I can pick up a quicker internet signal where I live?
